FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQs)

When I turn the unit on for the first time I cannot find a DAB station. Why?
When you turn the MINIDAB on you will need to scan for DAB stations. To do this, in DAB mode, press the 'Menu' button. This will display a number of options. Option One allows you to run an Autontune Local. Press the central play button to select this option. Please enure that the headphones or the external aerial are connected before choosing this option.
The unit will step through DAB frequencies and store the available stations. Once the autotune is complete you will be able to select from the range of available stations.

What format is the DAB recording?
All the recordings made on the MINIDAB are in MP3 format which can be played back on the MINIDAB and on most PCs with Windows Media Player or similar audio playback software.

Which music formats are supported by the music player?
The MINIDAB supports MP3, WMA and Ogg VORBIS formats.

Can I record from the radio onto the built in memory of the MINIDAB?
Yes, you can record DAB or FM radio directly onto the internal memory of the MiniDAB. Radio recordings can also be made onto the SD card. However recordings cannot be made onto both the internal and memory and SD card at the same time, this includes automatically transfering from one memory source to another if the memory runs out during recording.

Can I use the MINIDAB on Mac OS x and Windows operating systems?
Yes. When you plug the MINIDAB into your computer using the USB cable your computer should automatically detect it. If you are using Windows 98 then you will need to download the Windows Driver available in the SOFTWARE section of this page before connecting the MINIDAB to your PC.

What do you get in the box when you buy the Oono MINIDAB?
As well as the MINIDAB unit you also get:

  • Stereo Earphones;
  • USB Cable;
  • Speaker Aerial;
  • Line in/Out cable;
  • User manual;
  • Power adaptor;
  • Neck strap; and
  • External Microphone
Other accessories will be available soon.

Which types of SD card are recommended for use with the MINIDAB?
The MINIDAB can be used with SD cards up to a maximum capacity of 2GB. We recommend the following manufacturers: Transcend, Toshiba and SanDisk. We have tested exhaustively with these manufacturers and are completely satisifed with their products' compatibility with the MINIDAB.

Sometimes I get a “burbling” sound when listening. Why?
When the DAB signal is weak, the sound may be muted for a short time. If the signal is very weak, this sounds like a “burbling” sound. If the signal locally is normally strong, moving the set or the antenna will normally improve the signal. In weaker signal areas you may need to move closer to a window, or away from sources of interference such as electrical equipment, computers or televisions.

Sometimes I can't receive DAB inside, why is that?
Just like FM signals, DAB signals have difficulty getting into buildings constructed with metal or steel reinforced concrete, and in offices there may be sources of interference such as electrical equipment and computers.

Can I use my MINIDAB DAB Digital Radio worldwide?
Yes, as a Band III DAB radio it can pick up stations in the UK and in Europe, however this does not enable you to listen to home services abroad, like FM radio DAB can only pick up from transmitters locally.

How long can the MINIDAB record for?
Recording times depend the quality of the recording and how much space you have to record to. The table below should give you a good idea of how much recording time you have taking into account these factors.
